Drawing & Painting

Study line, shape, volume, texture, perspective, light, shadow, proportion, and compositional space while experimenting with layering and blending while working with pencil, charcoal, pen, and ink. Develop skills in various mediums by painting from still life, natural forms, interiors, the human figure, and abstract exploration. Learn painting techniques of blending, textural underpainting, glazing, and transparency while working with watercolor, acrylic, and oil.

Ceramics/ Pottery Wheel Throwing I

Ceramics as an art-making material emphasizing the use of the pottery wheel to develop forms. Class includes fundamentals of throwing, trimming, and glaze application and other techniques for decoration. Includes 3 hours of studio use/open lab during the weeks of instruction

For the student who has taken several clay classes and feels comfortable making basic forms. Students should have knowledge of some clay terminology. Expect troubleshooting sessions and a variety of teacher lead demos. Be comfortable working independently on personal or class projects/goals.

Clay Sculpture

Learn to create from employing compositional elements in 3D space. Experiment with a variety of materials and tools. Gain experience with mixing materials and sculpting pieces.

4 week course, 2 hours total instruction

Figures and Portrait Sculpture

Understand the proportion and anatomy of the human form. Develop the skills to render forms using clay.

6 week course, 3 hours total instruction

Teen Poetry

Teens get a break from screen time and stress by learning fun ways to express their emotions and inspirations. We will first warm up by venturing into art activities like sumi brush, monoprint, watercolor pencils, and origami. We will then have inspiration to compose poems that emphasize creative writing and reading the poems aloud, like English Haiku, Free Verse, and rhythms patterned on the way we speak naturally. Small class size; diverse learners welcome.
